The Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park (where the Lazy Tramper lodge is nestled) offers up 300 kilometres of tracks, huts and picnic areas developed for bush walks, tramping, camping and hunting.
Tracks range from easy, short and well-trod to multi-day extending hikes along difficult tracks - more suitable for experienced, well-equipped trampers.
This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and also one with a rich history. Most walks will provide Maori, logging or mining history.
You may see old wooden dams, logging chutes, mine shafts and other relics in your journeys. We have laminated Kaimai Mamaku maps that you are welcome to use during your stay with us as well as booklets outlining all the tracks in this forest park.
River Crossings, lakes hidden in dense forest, stunningly deep and narrow gorges, Kauri forests, waterfalls and swimming holes, mountains to climb, awe-inspiring views, high rocky bluffs, old logging tramlines and mill sites and so many more
awesome sights await your discovery here.
